That leaves an opening that is about .338" dia. The case is then formed to 300 blk dimensions which reduces the mouth size to hold a .308 bullet. You need a jig, a cutoff saw, a reforming die with steps (those that run this straight through a 300 BLK die are overstressing the brass, especially if fired brass), and then something to trim, debur, and chamfer (and perhaps other minor tools). WebDec 8, 2024 · Technically, all you need to change from a 556 AR to shoot 300BLK is the barrel. Only thing that is hit-or-miss is using existing AR mags. The geometry of the 300BLK bullet-end of the cartridge is different enough that it might cause problems with some types of 300BLK ammo feeding in regular (556) AR mags.
