WebSep 26, 2024 · The self-selected reading block is a 30-minute daily block of time that consists of a teacher read-aloud and short discussion followed by independent conferences with the teacher. Goals of this block are to improve book selection skills, reading comprehension and decoding. WebTeachers should be teaching reading to all students using the Comprehensive Core Reading Program that is on the level of the majority of children in the class. An initial lesson from the Comprehensive Core Reading Program is usually 30-40 minutes each day of the required 90 minute uninterrupted reading block.
