This allows the bullet to leave the barrel before the static condition of the operating rod is upset. Second, by reducing peak gas cylinder pressures the operating rod is not impacted as forcefully between shots. WebA Garand does just fine with regular, off-the-shelf ammo between 150gr and 180gr. But modern powders do have a different burn-rate than old Milsurp, so the kick is a bit "sharper". Shooting a bunch of commercial ammo in one sitting can be punishing to your shoulder.
