Mannitol salt agar is a selective medium for the isolation, differentiation, and enumeration of Staphylococcus species from clinical and non-clinical samples. It is both differential and selective agar. It selects organisms that can survive in areas of high salt concentration (sodium chloride). WebGeneral description. GranuCult ® Baird-Parker agar (base) is used for the isolation and enumeration of Staphylococcus aureus. This medium contains lithium chloride and tellurite to inhibit the growth of accompanying microbial flora, whereas pyruvate and glycine selectively stimulate the growth of staphylococci. Agar is the solidifying agent.
