Made from something called OLSONITE. It’s a heavy plastic. The chrome hinge is spectacular. Bret at Old Portland Hardware and Architectural had it. I was either going to try it out or sell it.

If this doesn't help, I dunno. Maybe if the whole suite was replaced the pan was mounted too close to the wall, not allowing the seat & lid to "lay back" far enough to stay up.
